Mousakelle Tamil Vidyalaya

Children Park Project 2009

This primary school is registered as Dambatenne No. 3 and has grade 1-5 students. There are 6 teachers and 115 students. Rameendrasehar from Badulla is the principle (Tel. 077-6325685), N. Prameela is the vice principle (Tel. 072-3779387). This school has started in 1931 with the old hall next to the hindu temple. In this hall are now the grade 1+2 students. A second building came late in 1991. There are two single rooms for the staff and grade 3. The bigger room is in use by grade 4+5 students. That means 2 teachers and two classes in the same room in the same time. A problem you can find at several schools islandwide that there are now walls between the groups and disturbance comes from all sides.

This school has no children park by now. We have the idea to donate them a double-swing and a climbing tower. The total project costs will be around 58,000 SLR.

2 Toys have been ordered in January 2009 from a local engineer from Bandarawela. Dias, Oliver and a guest from Nugegoda visited this school at 19. February 2009 to inform the staff. They walked around the school area with the pricipal, teachers and students to verify the best places for a double-swing and a double sea-saw. The students had to inform their parents to help with the instalation next day.

At 20. February Dias came by lorry with all toys, the engineer and some helpers. The school stuff and some students were waiting for them. It took a while to ask some parents to come and bring tools but later there were some good helpers around. The soil was hard and full of stones. It took a while to level the ground and toys and fix them with cement. Finally we had a lot of laughing and happy students around us.

We had a lot of photos from this day in Pitaratmalie and Moussakelle but unluckely they got lost. So when we go there next time we will make some more photos.

This children park has been donated by E. Oliver.

It shall get in 2009 a double-swing and a climbing tower as donation from the Children Park Fund Haputale.

At 20. February Dias came by lorry with all toys, the engineer and some helpers. At this day there was a school ceremony so all people were asked to come in and join with the students. Later the engineer gave some instructions how to prepair the ground. The lorry had to go on to the school in Moussakelle to unload the second children park. When they came they fixed the sea-saw and swing at Pitaratmalie school No. 1.

We had a lot of photos from this day in Pitaratmalie and Moussakelle but unluckely they got lost.

Both children parks have been donated by E. Oliver.
